The Story of Jeju Olle Road ‘Route 8’
Ollegil (Olle road) refers to a 12-route walking trail on Jeju Island that is now a popular tourist attraction that attracts not only visitors from mainland South Korea, but also foreigners who enjoy hiking.
In the local Jeju dialect, “Olle” was used originally to refer to the narrow path between the street and one’s doorstep. Walking along these small paths that take you through the mountains and along the coast is the best way to experience the unique, startling beauty of Jeju Island.
Route 8 continues along the seashore through Jusangjeolli which is a formation of stone pillars piled up along the coast and passes in front of Hyatt Regency Jeju. The sight of the abundant pampas grass makes the walk even more enjoyable. The end of the route, Daepyeong Pogu (a port), sits at the end of a valley and open fields that run towards the sea.
Hyatt Regency Jeju offers an Explore package that introduces the Olle Trail’s ‘Route 8’.
